Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?
Posted: February 20, 2011 By: Leah Jaffee

Jet lag combined with a desire for my vacation to never end left me able to only accomplish the necessary this past week. Finalizing Passover at Hillel, I realize we are eight weeks out from the holiday. There is a spectrum across the Jewish world of how this holiday is observed; some being far more stringent than others. Living in a Chabad community during my conversion, I adopted some of the traditions of this group. After I married, gebrokts (any wet matzoh) was avoided until the last day of the holiday, the 8th day. Doing the Hillel community project for the past 7 years, I've gotten used to using matzoh meal and such during the first 7 days.

Purim is a month away but I feel compelled to jump ahead to Passover. It requires preparation, thought and while people aren't making 1500 meals like I am, it is still a marathon of meals. I'll focus on foods that may be used for Passover in the general sense over the coming weeks. If you have a more strict observance of foods allowed, please see if you can modify the ingredients as these recipes are quite tasty.

I've decided that I can't do hamentachen for the community this year...plus cater and do the website. I'll be posting my recipes for the hamentachen we have made over the years, about 13,000 year in and year out. Watch for these over the next couple of weeks.

I have my shopping list and plan on making 6 - 8 types of chicken tomorrow....and, that is why they crossed the road!
